What is Kicked It In Heels and Why Should I Donate? Quite simply–because the journey doesn’t end in survivorship. KIH’s work in offering navigational services and workshops focused on fitness, beauty and wellness helps survivors optimize their quality of life. This year, we offered a summer Tai Chi Workshop.

Formerly known as t’ai chi ch’uan (which translates into “supreme ultimate fist”) tai chi is an ancient Chinese martial art practiced with “internal power” rather than external power. The slow, circular movements are practiced mindfully and with a focus on the internal experience.
Tai chi is often described as “meditation in motion.” There is growing evidence that this mind-body practice, has value in breast cancer survivors.Dr. Irwin at UCLA discovered that tai chi relaxes the body to a certain point that it can reduce inflammation commonly seen in most breast cancer survivors. Our survivors enjoyed our Tai Chi Workshop in Martha’s Vineyard so much we plan to offer it again this coming January. Stay tuned!
